LOSS IN THE GOLF TOURISM INDUSTRY 2020

17/11/2020

2020 is a year that everyone wants to forget. According to data from WorldOMeters, by the morning of 04th December 2020, there were 65.703.816 people infected and 1.515.121 deaths due to Coronavirus. In Vietnam, golf tourism has also suffered a lot. However, we can hardly imagine how this effect is, until we see the figures below.

According to statistics, compared to the same period last year (January-February 2019), the number of visitors coming to Vietnam for playing golf from January to February 2020 has increased by 33%. Equivalent to 12,014 arrivals.

However, starting from February 2020, the number of golf tourists has declined sharply (to 22% which is equivalent to 9,900 arrivals).

- In March, it was 68% equivalent to 3,600 arrivals due to Covid pandemic.

- In April, the number dropped to only 211 arrivals.

- In May, Vietnam welcomed 181 arrivals, decreasing 98.3% compared to the same period in 2019.

- In June, Vietnam only welcomed about 29 arrivals for golf (decreased by 99.3% compared to the same period in 2019)

- In July, Vietnam only welcomed about 50 arrivals for golf.

- In August, it was 120 arrivals

- In September, it was 110 arrivals (went down by 99% compared to 2019)

- In October, Vietnam reached 120 international arrivals to Vietnam for golf (reduced by 99.1% compared to 2019)

- In November, the arrivals was 141 (dropped by 99% compared to the same period last year)

- How much will this number be in December? The increasing figures show a glimmer of hope for Vietnam’s golf industry. We are all looking forward to a brighter picture in the first quarter of 2021.

(The number of arrivals from July came from foreign experts who came back to work in Vietnam after the quarantine period)
